Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services

Spero Health delivers medically supervised addiction treatment through a range of structured programs and services. Our approach integrates medication-assisted treatment, behavioral health care, and coordinated recovery support to ensure patients receive the right level of care at the right time.

  • Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Our outpatient addiction treatment program provides structured, evidence-based care for individuals seeking recovery from opioid and other substance use disorders. Services include medical evaluations, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), counseling, and ongoing recovery support — all designed to help patients build stability while continuing to live at home and maintain daily responsibilities.

  • IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program)

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a higher level of structured care while allowing patients to remain at home. IOP includes increased clinical support, group therapy, individual counseling, recovery support and medication management. Availability may vary by location, our Connection Care Team can help determine options in your area.

  • PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program)

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides a full-day, highly structured treatment experience for individuals who need more intensive support. PHP includes comprehensive clinical services, medical oversight, and coordinated recovery planning. This level of care is available in select areas. Please speak with our Connection Care Team to learn about availability near you.

  • Recovery Housing

Recovery housing provides a safe, supportive living environment for individuals participating in our Partial Hospitalization Program in select areas. In some communities, Spero Health operates men’s and women’s recovery homes. In others, we coordinate care with trusted sober living partners to support patients enrolled in PHP. Recovery housing is available only in locations where PHP services are offered.

  • Telehealth Addiction Treatment

Our telehealth addiction treatment services provide access to comprehensive outpatient care from the privacy of your home. Telehealth services mirror the structure and clinical quality of in-person outpatient treatment and are available throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio for eligible patients.

Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Spero Health’s outpatient addiction treatment program provides structured, medically supervised care for individuals seeking recovery from opioid and other substance use disorders. This level of care allows patients to live at home while receiving consistent clinical support and accountability.

Outpatient Services Include:

  • Comprehensive medication-assisted treatment (MAT), utilizing FDA-approved medications such as Suboxone, Sublocade® monthly injections, Brixadi® long-acting injections, Vivitrol®, and other clinically appropriate medications based on individual needs
  • Individual counseling and group therapy
  • Ongoing medical monitoring and medication management
  • Care coordination, case management and recovery support services

Each treatment plan is carefully tailored to the patient’s medical history, substance use patterns, and recovery goals. Not every medication is appropriate for every individual — our providers conduct thorough evaluations to determine the safest and most effective treatment approach.

Outpatient addiction treatment often serves as the foundation of recovery — providing structure, accountability, and evidence-based support in a professional, judgment-free environment.

IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program)

Spero Health’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides a higher level of structured support for individuals who need more clinical engagement than traditional outpatient care, but do not require full-day treatment.

IOP is designed for patients who may need additional stability, relapse prevention support, or increased accountability during early recovery. The goal of IOP is to help individuals strengthen coping skills and recovery foundations before stepping down to standard outpatient addiction treatment.

IOP typically lincludes:

  • Increased daily and weekly clinical contact compared to regular outpatient care
  • Structured group therapy sessions
  • Individual counseling as needed
  • Ongoing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and medical oversight
  • Relapse prevention planning
  • Continued care coordination and recovery support

IOP adds more structured therapeutic engagement throughout the week to reinforce recovery skills and improve treatment retention.

As patients demonstrate stability and progress, they transition from IOP into regular outpatient addiction treatment, where they continue medication management and counseling at a level appropriate for long-term recovery.

IOP services are available in many Spero Health locations. Our Connection Care Team can help determine availability and appropriate placement in your area.

PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program)

Spero Health’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is our most intensive level of outpatient care. PHP provides full-day, structured treatment for individuals who require a higher level of clinical support and daily therapeutic engagement.

This level of care is often appropriate for individuals transitioning from inpatient treatment, residential programs, or correctional settings who need continued stabilization before stepping down to a less intensive level of care.

PHP is designed to provide consistent daily structure, medical oversight, and comprehensive therapeutic services while allowing patients to return home or to recovery housing in the evenings (where available).

PHP typically includes:

  • Full-day treatment programming, five days per week
  • Daily clinical and therapeutic services
  • Ongoing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and medical monitoring
  • Structured group therapy and/or individual counseling
  • Relapse prevention and recovery skill development
  • Care coordination and discharge planning

The primary goal of PHP is stabilization. As patients demonstrate progress and increased independence, they transition to Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) or regular outpatient addiction treatment for continued support.

Partial Hospitalization services are available in select Spero Health locations. In communities where PHP is offered, it may be paired with structured recovery housing options to further support stability and treatment engagement. Our Connection Care Team can help determine availability in your area.

Recovery Housing

In select communities where Spero Health offers Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) services, structured recovery housing — also known as sober living homes — may be available to support treatment engagement and daily stability.

Recovery housing is designed for individuals who benefit from a safe, substance-free living environment while participating in PHP. This level of support is often appropriate for individuals transitioning from inpatient treatment, residential care, or correctional settings who need additional structure before returning to fully independent living.

In some areas, Spero Health operates dedicated men’s and women’s recovery homes that are aligned with our PHP programming. In other communities, we coordinate closely with trusted local sober living partners to help ensure patients have access and transporation to appropriate housing while enrolled in PHP.

Recovery housing is structured and short-term in nature. The goal is to provide stability, accountability, and a supportive environment as patients progress through PHP and prepare to transition to Intensive Outpatient (IOP) or standard outpatient addiction treatment. As individuals gain independence and demonstrate progress, they step down to less intensive levels of care and independent living arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What medications does Spero Health use for addiction treatment?

Spero Health offers comprehensive medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using FDA-approved medications tailored to each patient’s clinical needs. These may include Suboxone, Sublocade® monthly injections, Brixadi® long-acting injections, Vivitrol®, and other medications that support recovery. Not every medication is appropriate for every patient. Our providers conduct thorough medical evaluations to determine the safest and most effective treatment plan.

How does medication-assisted treatment (MAT) support recovery?

Medication-assisted treatment helps reduce cravings, manage withdrawal symptoms, and stabilize brain chemistry disrupted by opioid use disorder. When combined with counseling, behavioral therapy, and recovery support, MAT improves treatment retention and long-term recovery outcomes. At Spero Health, medications are always part of a structured, medically supervised program — not a stand-alone solution.

Do you provide Hepatitis C treatment?

Yes. Spero Health provides Hepatitis C (Hep C) testing and treatment at all of our locations. Many individuals living with opioid use disorder are at increased risk for Hepatitis C, but the good news is that Hep C is now curable with modern antiviral medications. Early detection and treatment can prevent serious liver damage and long-term complications. Our medical providers can evaluate and coordinate treatment as part of your overall care plan

Do you offer additional support services beyond addiction treatment?

Yes. In addition to medication-assisted treatment and therapy, Spero Health offers recovery-focused services such as:

  • Smoking cessation support
  • Patient education and relapse prevention planning
  • Family counseling when requested
  • Treatment for hep C
  • Care coordination and community resource referrals
  • Life skill education and support

Recovery often involves more than just medication, and we aim to support the whole person.

How long will I need to stay in treatment?

Length of treatment varies based on individual needs. Some patients may benefit from longer-term medication support, while others may transition off medication under medical supervision. Addiction is a chronic medical condition, and treatment duration is based on stability, progress, and recovery goals — not a fixed timeline.

Can I continue working or going to school while in treatment?

Yes. Many patients continue working, attending school, and caring for family members while in outpatient or telehealth treatment. Our programs are structured to support recovery while allowing individuals to maintain daily responsibilities.

What insurance plans do you accept?

Spero Health accepts state Medicaid plans and most commercial insurance plans. Coverage details can vary by state and individual policy. Our Connection Care Team can verify insurance benefits and explain coverage before your first appointment.

How do I know which level of care is right for me?

Our clinical team conducts a comprehensive assessment to determine the most appropriate level of care. Some individuals may begin in outpatient treatment, while others may benefit from IOP or PHP before stepping down. Treatment plans are personalized and adjusted as progress is made.

Is telehealth addiction treatment as effective as in-person care?

For many individuals, telehealth addiction treatment is an effective and convenient option. Telehealth follows the same clinical standards, medical oversight, and structured treatment protocols as in-person outpatient care. It can be especially helpful for individuals facing transportation barriers, work schedule conflicts, or living in rural communities across Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia.
